Maternal and Child Health


The Iowa County Health Department is passionate about offering services and resources to the residents of Iowa County in the area of Maternal-Child Health.

 

Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of Iowa County’s:


  • Infants
  • Children, including Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN)
  • Adolescents
  • Pregnant, Postpartum, and Parenting People
  • Families

Free Home Visits

 

We offer free home visits or phone visits by a Public Health Nurse that may include prenatal visits, infant weight and height checks, postpartum visits and early parenting education along with discussion about resources available to new families. The visit also includes a baby care package.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program through SWCAP

First Breath Program 


Wisconsin’s free program to help people make positive changes to their tobacco, alcohol and substance use during pregnancy & beyond! For more information: Smoking, alcohol or drug use concerns during pregnancy? We can help.

 

Birth to 3 Program


The Wisconsin Birth to 3 Program is an early intervention special education program, helping children under the age of 3 with developmental delays or disabilities.

Early Head Start & Head Start


Provides early, continuous, comprehensive child development and family support services to infants and toddlers (up to age 5) and their families, and pregnant women. For eligibility and more information: Head Start And Early Head Start - Child Development Programs - SWCAP

Safe Sleep


We are a member of the Cribs for Kids Program and offer free pack n plays to those in need (while supplies last). 

 

Lead Poisoning Education


There is no safe blood lead level. We offer education and resources around lead poisoning prevention as well as case management with a child who has a high blood level result. 

 

Well Water Testing


We provide free well water test kits to Iowa County mothers who have children under the age of 1. Infants can be more severely affected by water quality issues.

 

Immunizations

 

The Iowa County Health Department partners with families to provide children’s vaccines. We can provide free childhood vaccines for families covered by BadgerCare, as well as those who are uninsured or underinsured. Please call the ICHD for an appointment.

Patients with health insurance shall be directed to their primary care provider and some may be eligible to receive immunizations at pharmacies. The following resources are available to families so that they can track their children’s vaccine status:
