D.A.R.E.

The D.A.R.E. Program is taught in five schools by Iowa County Deputy Kyle Van Haren.  The elementary children at Barneveld, Highland, Iowa-Grant, Hollandale and Ridgeway are taught how to make good choices and decisions concerning alcohol and drugs.  The D.A.R.E. program lasts approximately 12 weeks and usually starts in January.

D.A.R.E. stands for DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION.  It was started in Los Angeles, California in 1983 and has been taught in Iowa County for over a decade now.  The DARE Program is taught to 36 million children in 43 countries world wide.

Deputy Van Haren completed D.A.R.E. training in 2008 and has been teaching the program in Iowa County Schools since then.  Deputy Van Haren is assigned to third shift patrol when not teaching D.A.R.E.  If you have any questions about D.A.R.E., please contact Deputy Van Haren at the Iowa County Sheriff's Department, (608)935-3314.
